Climate Crossroads: Partying in Hollywood with Reverb’s Green Music Group

It was Grammys weekend in Hollywood, and what better time to launch Reverb’s Green Music Group than Saturday night? Jane’s House in Hollywod was packed to the rafters with eco-celebs, actors, musicians and hangers-on.

The highlight of the event was a performance by members of Guster, Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band and Roots. Without an elevated stage and small performance space, the audience was treated to a rare, intimate jam-session all in the name of going green.

Music fans would do just about anything to get into the Roots Jam Session in L.A. on Saturday night.

The sixth annual fete, which was hosted by John Legend and featured a performance by Estelle, was so tough to get into that “people were tracking down the event producers and offering them cash,” an insider snitched. In fact, “One guy even offered to wash the car of the event producer for a year straight in exchange for a ticket.”

Of course, a few celebs were lucky enough to get in to the Green Music Group fete without having to offer any services, including the Jonas BrothersMacy GrayLinkin Park and Ryan Phillippe.

USC News Center: UCS Partners with Musicians to Green the Music Industry

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) today announced it is partnering with a high-profile coalition that brings together musicians, industry leaders and music fans to promote widespread environmental change within the music industry and around the globe. The Green Music Group (GMG), a coalition created by the environment- and music-focused nonprofit Reverb, celebrated its official launch last weekend in Hollywood, California.

After a one year hiatus, the annual Roots Jam Session returned to Los Angeles with a vengeance this past Saturday marking the sixth time The Legendary have descended on Grammy Weekend with no regard for snobbery or popularity.

Green Music Group was also in the house spreading their message of environmental change and green living.  All in all the atmosphere was ripe with positively and the kind of organic creativity that The Roots have been fostering for years.

New Music Reviews: The Roots Bring High-Energy Classics To Pre-Grammy Jam Session

The Roots, the Roots, the Roots were on fire as they blasted through back-to-back classics, covers and mash-ups at their sixth annual Pre-Grammy Jam Session at Hollywood’s Key Club. The Philadelphia crew was clearly having a blast as friends like John Legend, Mos Def and ex-keyboardist Scott Storch joined them onstage throughout a night that lasted well past 2 a.m.

Slash, Twista, David Banner, Ryan Phillippe and Kelsey Grammer were among the luminaries who skipped stuffier Grammy events around town to check out the star-studded-but-casual affair. Prince, Dave Chappelle, Snoop Dogg and even Tom Cruise have dropped by in the past, and the 2010 incarnation of the event, sponsored by Green Music Group, lived up to all prior expectations as the crowd danced the night away to the non-stop tunes.

Green Hands USA: Dave Matthews Band, Linkin Park, The Roots Join Green Music Group

Since 2004, the non-profit organization Reverb, founded by Guster guitarist Adam Gradner, has greened over 85 major music tours , including acts Dave Matthews Band, Coldplay and John Legend, while conducting grassroots educational outreach to over 10 million music fans. Their our greening efforts  recycling, composting, using reusable water bottles and silverware, purchasing power from renewable energy sources, and fueling tour busses with sustainably produced biodiesel.

On Saturday, January 30, Reverb will launch Green Music Group, a large-scale, high-profile environmental coalition of musicians, industry leaders and music fans uniting in one voice behind a common goal: to use their collective power to bring about widespread environmental change within the music industry and around the globe.
